I read Hebrews 11 today, and verse 8 really stuck out to me. It says, "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." When God called Abraham to go to the Promise Land in Canaan, he didn't know what it was like there or what God's purpose was in sending him. However, solely with his faith, Abraham was able to trust in God and be certain that God's sending him had to have an important purpose. The thing is, Abraham's father was unable to do this because he settled in Haran and didn't want to take any risks in following God without being sure that everything will be okay.
So many people in the Bible were called to do certain things. Sometimes, they knew what they were getting themselves into. However, sometimes, they didn't have a clue in what to expect or why God had chosen them to do His will. When we honestly put ourselves in Abraham's shoes, can we say that we could be like him- take a huge risk by traveling somewhere foreign because God said to do so? This is what I feel: Abraham's father was a believer who trusted in God to a certain extent. By no means was he a nonbeliever just because he settled in Haran. But, Abraham was someone who was more than that. Abraham knew that God was always planning things for him to do, and trusted that, wherever he went or in whatever he did, God would be with him. Abraham was someone who stretched his faith and love for God by humbling himself and not worrying about anything.
From today's devos, I learned that reading the Bible and knowing the individuals from the Bible help me to be a growing and striving Christian.
